Silence Becomes You - Pictures of Treason (Original title: Silence Becomes You ) is a British - Lithuanian fantasy thriller from 2005 . Stephanie Sinclaire directed and wrote the script.

Sisters Violet and Grace share a large, secluded house in New England . They have lived there alone since the death of the dominant father who brought them up very strictly. Due to their gloomy childhood, the two sisters have a strong bond and are very close. However, they have lost touch with reality and come up with bizarre plans, such as wanting to have a baby and then raise it together. To this end, they lure a young traveler into their house whom Violet had deliberately drawn attention to in a bar. The sisters are slowly approaching their plan. They first make him drunk and let him spend the night in the guest room. The next morning, Luke introduces himself and decides to accept Violet and Grace's offer and stay for a few days. In the evening Luke invites Violet to go on a trip and the two leave Grace alone for several hours. Luke suggests that they go out together, but Violet says he hardly knows her and what would they want to live on? Even so, they kiss and return to the house and Grace. Grace is slightly out of tune and tells Violet that they would "break the rules" and she wanted the baby is not more now.
The sisters decide to play their "alpha game" in which they try to mentally connect with Luke. Luke gets involved and experiences somewhat eerie, but also calming visions. The next morning, Grace tells Violet that she would prefer Luke to leave, but Violet refuses. She feels more and more drawn to Luke, so that it comes to intimacies, much to the displeasure of Grace, whose visions of the past become more and more intense and surreal and also begin to affect Luke. It gets so scary for him that he wants to leave the house as soon as possible, but not without Violet, but she still refuses. Grace tries to encourage her sister to let Luke go, but she cannot bring herself to do that either, although she too is plagued by visions of the past. Grace tries to bind her sister more to herself, but she is powerless against Luke and his love for Violet.
After Violet discovers she is pregnant, she finally agrees to go away with Luke and ignore Grace's warnings. In a final attempt to prevent her sister from doing so, Grace tries to seduce Luke. Despite slight concerns, Luke sleeps with her when Violet is away from the house for some time. He immediately regrets this move and begins to hate Grace after she doesn't hesitate to tell Violet about Luke's infidelity. Violet runs out of the house, disturbed, but when Luke follows her and apologizes, they both decide to leave here. The couple stays in a motel overnight, where Violet reveals to Luke her pregnancy. Luke is happy and promises to get a job so he can take care of her. The next morning they make their way to California, but Grace uses her mental strength to influence Violet and since Luke is sleeping in the car, Violet steers the car back to her villa. When Luke notices this, he is furious and only Grace's offer of a "truce" makes him stay with Violet one more night. While Violet goes to the market to buy supplies for a "celebratory" meal, Grace wants Luke to model for her a picture that she had started and now wants to complete. Luke agrees and has to hear from Grace that she wants to capture his soul with it. Her father's spirit would inspire her.
Luke has to stand bare-chested in the room with his hands tied when Grace begins to paint. She gives in to hear her father's voice, and for Luke the extent of her madness is revealed. It is corroborated by a movie that Grace projects on the wall, which shows how her father tormented her as a child when he pushed her into a swimming pool and films her fight against drowning. Grace begins to cry when she experiences violent visions and grips the brush so tight that her hand begins to bleed. She takes a bow and arrow and aims at Luke, who has finally had enough and tries to flee. In doing so, he knocks over a candle, which immediately sets the pictures on fire. Grace then tries to guide the flames with her thoughts and to steer it against Luke. Meanwhile, Violet senses that something is wrong and returns to the villa - so she has to watch Luke die in the fire. Grace escapes unharmed.
After Violet has a miscarriage, she leaves the mansion for good. It is revealed that Grace is now pregnant, implying that she got what she wanted all along. The film ends with a heavily pregnant Grace, who sits alone in the room, knits baby clothes and has already prepared a cot.

According to the first plans from 2003, about which the magazine Variety reported on March 16, 2003, the film should be shot in May 2003 with Thora Birch , Juliette Lewis and Toby Stephens with an estimated budget of 15 million US dollars . Ireland was planned as the shooting location . It was finally filmed in Vilnius from December 2004 to February 2005. Its production cost was estimated to be $ 6 million.
The film was released on DVD on December 13, 2005 in the USA. The release in Germany followed in May 2006. In June 2006 the film was released in Spanish cinemas.

Kino.de rated: “'Silence Becomes You' is a romantic gothic shower drama that has two attractive leading actresses in its ensemble, Alicia Silverstone and Sienna Guillory. Sometimes a bit confused in the plot, the main focus of the digital production is on the atmosphere. "
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was an "endeavored fantasy thriller with erotic and fairytale elements". He was “enriched with an overabundance of effects in post-production”, but “lacked any sense of subtleties and balance” and suffered “especially from his aimless script”.
The magazine Cinema ridiculed the film as a "crude mystery drama", "gothic gothic fairy tale" and "perfect sleeping pill". It contains "confused flashbacks"; “At most the sepia-colored pictures” are “artistically valuable”.
