action
The young Julia Hawthorne works as a journalist . First and foremost, her job is important to her; besides, at her age she wants to enjoy life first. At first she doesn't think about love. Remembering her mother Liz's fate makes her reluctant to bond. Her mother, still an attractive woman in her mid-forties, was abandoned after a long marriage by Juliet's father, who had fallen in love with a young village girl and finally ran away with her. Julia definitely doesn't want to suffer a fate like her mother's.
When Julia meets the young, attractive Miles Brendan, who has been hired as estate manager for the family estate, her decision is shaken. Miles keeps it secret that he is the son of a well-known diplomat , as he wants to build a professional existence on his own, without the support of his father and the family legacy. This repeatedly leads to arguments between father and son.
Miles immediately falls in love with Julia. Julia feels drawn to Miles as well, but refuses to feel deeper and wants to keep their relationship on a purely friendly level. She also thinks Miles is a marriage swindler who wants to gain access to a higher class of society as an administrator. When Julia Vic, an attractive and superficial bon vivant from London , fell in love with him. She moves to Vic in London and tries to forget Miles. The latter then gives up his position as administrator. To distract himself from his grief, he retreats into solitude and alone renovates his cottage , which he inherited as part of the family estate.
Julia's mother Liz regrets her daughter's decision because she would have liked Miles and Julia to become a couple. She herself is now unhappily in love with the fisherman Garry, who, however, cannot reciprocate her feelings, as he is married and puts the well-being of his daughter, whom he lovingly cares for, above everything else.
Julia finally invites Miles to her wedding in London. When he receives the invitation, he realizes once more that Julia is his great love. He decides to fight for her.
