The Rosenlauigletscher is located at the northeast end of the Bernese Alps south of Meiringen , in the canton of Bern , Switzerland . It has a length of 4.5 km with an average width of 1 km, covers an area of approximately 6 km² and has a slope of 19 degrees (34%). The glacier can be reached on foot from Rosenlaui .

The Rosenlauigletscher takes its starting point in the Wetterkessel on the northeast flank of the Wetterhorn group at an altitude of about 2800-3500 m above sea level. M. In the south, the glacier over firnbedeckte combs one hand to the Gauligletscher , on the other hand with the upper Grindelwaldgletscher connected. The Rosenlauigletscher flows in an approximately 600 m high icefall from the Wetterkessel to the north-northeast. In the west it is flanked by the rocky ridge of the Wellhorn (3191 m above sea level) and the Kleiner Wellhorn (2700 m above sea level), in the east by the Dossen (3138 m above sea level). The glacier tongue is currently at an altitude of 2000 m above sea level. Here the Weissenbach rises , which falls steeply into the valley with waterfalls and flows into the Reichenbach after the Rosenlaui glacier gorge . This leads the water over the famous Reichenbach Falls through the Reichenbachtal to the Aare .

At its peak during the Little Ice Age around the middle of the 19th century, the Gletscherhubel, a rock below today's tongue, divided it into two ends. Today it is accessible. The right end of the tongue passed the western walls of the Hinteren Engelhörner and ended at about 1700 m above sea level. The much larger left end of the tongue reached down over the steep rock slope below today's tongue and ended in the area of the Rosenlauischlucht, at about 1460 m above sea level. M.

The glacier level from 1828 is exactly reproduced on the painting by Samuel Birmann : The Rosenlaui Glacier . Another painting by the hand of the painter Johann Heinrich Schilbach with the title Der Rosenlauigletscher from 1835 is in the catalog for an exhibition "Magic of the Moment" in the Museum Giersch, Frankfurt / Main from the years 2009/2010.

The Dossenhütte of the Swiss Alpine Club SAC stands on the rock ridge east of the glacier at 2663 m above sea level. M.
