Rosina (first name)
Rosina , also raisin , is a female given name.
Origin and meaning
Rosina and raisin are subsidiary forms of pink . Hence the name is of Latin origin and refers to the rose . The first name is usually viewed as an Italian diminutive of pink. However, it was already widespread in Germany, especially in Württemberg and Saxony , from the 16th century . This popularity lasted until the end of the 19th century. Apparently with the spread of the previously rather North German word raisin for a dried grape (grape), the name largely disappeared. Previously, raisins were mostly called Zibebe in southern Germany . The name is still widespread in the Romansh- speaking region of Switzerland.
name day
Name day is March 11th , on which the martyr Rosina von Wenglingen , also known as Euphrosyne or Rosamunde, is commemorated. Little is known about Rosina's life. She is said to have lived as a hermit in Wenglingen in the Allgäu. In Wenglingen there has been a rosina chapel consecrated to her since 1679 .
