The book begins in the late 1980s. Jörg Raufeisen and Olaf Plogstedt got to know each other at the Steigenberger Hotel in Berlin , where Plogstedt was just completing his training as a cook and Raufeisen hired as a pastry chef . After the fall of the Berlin Wall , both quit their jobs in the hotel kitchen of the Steigenberger Hotel and moved to Hamburg, where they worked in different restaurants.

Together they founded the Rote Gourmet Fraktion and organized their first catering on Christmas Eve 1992 together with the band Prollhead . With borrowed 60,000  DM which was Red Gourmet Group officially founded on May 1, 1993rd After further small engagements, she was signed by Bela B. , the drummer of the Berlin band Die Ärzte , for the band's comeback tour that same year.

In their book, Raufeisen and Plogstedt reported on their penchant for the bizarre by garnishing their buffet with horror props such as skulls, replicas of giant insects or dummies of leg stumps or decorating the Christmas tree with tampons, which, according to their own statements, often led to misunderstandings. The creations include dishes such as “nasal tampon with artichoke”, “rats in split gravel”, “junk fish” or “gummy bear lasagne on paving stones”.

rating

The Neue Musikzeitung judges that this “autobiography of a company” gives “[s] smugly-ironic, Hanseatic distanced and with the right amount of self-criticism ... a non-ingratiating insight into the pop business” and recommends the book as it creatively introduces a sector that has hardly been noticed .
