The Rottscheidter Bach is a 2.789 kilometer long brook in the Wuppertal district and urban district Vohwinkel and is a tributary of the Wupper . In older sources of the Wupperverband, the spelling of Rottscheider Bach is recorded; the spelling was corrected in 2013.

topography

The stream has its source at around 247 meters above sea level in a loosely built-up area, near the youth traffic exercise area on Ehrenhainstraße , in the south of the Vohwinkel district of Wuppertal. It flows first in a northerly direction and about 55 meters after its source it crosses under the federal motorway 46 (A 46). After crossing under, it continues to flow above ground for around 250 meters.

Further on, the stream crosses under the street Westring , in order to then pass under the area of the Vohwinkler open-air swimming pool with pipes. The stream now reaches the densely built-up area of the district, where it still runs partially above ground. It follows Rottscheidter Strasse , which runs in a north-easterly direction, and then follows Gustavstrasse, piped up, in a north-westerly direction past the Church of St. Mary's Conception .

The Gustavstraße abuts now on the Kaiserplatz and the Rottscheider Bach here runs underground, which is now in the northeast direction under the entire course of the Kaiserstrasse . About 100 meters before the confluence with the Wupper, the brook receives an inflow from the right from the Stackenberger Bach . Then the Rottscheidter Bach flows into the Wupper, near the Hammerstein suspension railway station, at a height of around 138 meters, at the point where the river swings to the south.

The valley of the Rottscheidter Bach

The Rottscheidter Bach runs through the Vohwinkeler Senke , in which the initially independent municipality and the later district of Vohwinkel was created. The main street, Kaiserstraße , which connected Vohwinkel and Sonnborn , was built in 1832.
