Roxanne Joy Seeman (born June 10, 1954 in New York City ) is an American songwriter , poet, and music producer . She became known as a songwriter for Barbra Streisand , Bette Midler , The Sisters of Mercy , The Jacksons and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others .

Career

Roxanne completed a higher education in Oriental Studies, Art and Languages ​​at Columbia University , which she graduated with a diploma. It found its way into the music industry in 1979 through jazz singer and actress Dee Dee Bridgewater , who re-recorded instrumentals by Ramsey Lewis with lyrics by Seemann with Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire and producer George Duke . This project led to another artistic collaboration with Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire.

Collaboration with Billie Hughes

Seeman made her breakthrough with the musician Billie Hughes , with whom she worked from 1983. The two produced the single and the album Welcome to the Edge , which stayed in the top 10 of the Japanese charts for four months. A total of 520,000 copies were sold. The single was in the Japan Music Awards as No. 1 International Single of the Year awarded. Welcome to the Edge has been re-recorded by numerous singers from Japan and China since its release in Southeast Asia.

One of the most famous songs written by Hughes and Seeman is Philip Bailey's Walking on the Chinese Wall . In September 2004, a pop concert was held on the Great Wall of China for the first time with Alicia Keys as the main act. Walking on the Chinese Wall was the last song of their performance.

Songwriting career

Roxanne became successful in Europe, Asia and South America by writing lyrics for international songs. Barbra Streisand recorded Seeman's Let's Start Right Now, a Brazilian song, with Seeman's original English lyrics. Let's Start Right Now was released as a limited edition bonus CD track for Streisand's A Love Like Ours album. It was released as a bonus track on the internationally sold CD If You Ever Leave Me . In 2003 Jermaine Jackson appeared with Let's Start Right Now on The View program . The song was introduced by Barbara Walters . Bette Midler released Seemans and Hughes' Night and Day, a hit song and music video , in 1991 .

In 1993, The Sisters of Mercy debuted with Under the Gun, a successful song and music video composed by Billie Hughes, Roxanne Seeman and Andrew Eldritch, with production directing by Andrew Eldritch and Billie Hughes. In collaboration with Sarah Brightman and her husband Frank Peterson , Seeman wrote harem, plus new original English-language lyrics for Cancao do Mar, an originally Portuguese fado song made famous by Amalia Rodrigues . Sarah Brightman's harem stayed in the Billboard Top 10 Crossover Classical for up to 80 weeks . Harem became the title of Brightman's world tour, her PBS "Harem: A Desert Fantasy Special" show , and her "Live from Las Vegas" world tour (recorded on DVD). Harem (Lehman & Rivera Mixes) became the # 1 dance title on the Hot Dance Club Play Billboard Charts .

In December 2008 Daniel Lindstrom released his title Caught in that Feeling in Sweden - the song was composed by Seeman, Lindstrom and Samsson. In 2009 Roxanne worked on the song Amor en suspenso (Crocodile Tears) with Alejandra Guzmán , Mexico's " Queen of Rock Music ".

Movie and TV

Roxanne's works can be heard in numerous film and television productions. Her song So Hard to Know was written at the request of Chet Baker . It refers to the Oscar-nominated documentary Let's Get Lost, Bruce Weber's tribute film about the life and music of Chet Baker. The re-release of Weber's "Let's Get Lost" debuted in London on June 5, 2008.

Welcome to the Edge received an Emmy nomination for Best Original Song on the television show Santa Barbara . In 1992, Seeman and Hughes received their second Emmy nomination for Best Original Song for 'Dreamlove' on the television show Another World . Together with Earth, Wind & Fire, Seeman wrote Cruisin ' for Spike Lee's Get on the Bus. A collaboration with Eric Levi from ERA and Philip Bailey from ERA resulted in the final song of the successful French film La Vengeance d'une Blonde.

Roxanne wrote Hold On to the Good Things for Stuart Little 2, which was shot by Grammy Award artist Shawn Colvin . For William Ross ' theme for The Young Black Stallion , Roxanne and Gavin Greenaway developed and produced the song Born to Ride, sung by Biana Tamimi, an 11-year-old film actress for the DVD release.
