Elizabeth Mencel (born April 14, 1993 in Philadelphia , United States ), better known by her stage name Rozes , is an American singer and songwriter . She became known through her participation in the single Roses by the DJ duo The Chainsmokers .

biography

From the age of six, Mencel took piano lessons , sang in the children's choir and played the violin and guitar . According to her own statement, Mencel was strongly influenced by her grandmother Rose, which is where her stage name Rozes comes from. Mencel graduated from Community College with an associate degree and then moved to Temple University in Philadelphia, but dropped out of school in the senior year to devote himself entirely to music.

Career

In October 2014 Mencel wrote the song Limelight for Just a Gent and featured it in the song. The song received over 2 million views on SoundCloud . The American DJ - Duo The Chainsmokers was Hype Machine , an English music blog in which the song Limelight was number one, attentive to Mencel, after which they invited the singer to write a song together. Roses was finished within six hours at the first meeting, with Mencel playing a key role in writing the text. Roses reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top 20 in numerous other countries, making it Mencel's first commercial success. For over one million copies sold, including music streaming , Roses was awarded a platinum record by the Recording Industry Association of America in January 2016 . On February 14, 2016, their debut EP Burn Wild was released .

In 2016 Rozes released the song All of Me together with the instrumental electronica band Big Gigantic and rapper Logic . This could achieve a placement in the US dance charts. Between the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017 she worked with the US EDM formation Cash Cash . This resulted in the future bass production Matches , which was released as a single on March 3, 2017.
