A Colombian national soccer team took part in the qualification for the Olympic Games in Rome for the first time, but was unable to qualify, as was the case four years later. The qualification was only successful for the 1968 games, but the team failed in the preliminary round. After that, Colombia was able to qualify four more times, most recently for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro . In 2016, the preliminary round was survived for the first time.
