Rudolf Albrecht (pastor)

Rudolf Albrecht (born July 13, 1942 in Wellerswalde , Gem. Liebschützberg ; † September 27, 2015 in Seesen ) was a German Protestant pastor and representative of the church peace movement in the GDR .

After attending the Church Proseminar, Albrecht studied theology at the Theological Seminary in Leipzig between 1960 and 1965 . In 1965 and 1966 he did alternative military service with the construction soldiers . Then he was pastor in Ziegenhain until 1980 and in Dresden until 1996 . From 1996 to 2007 he worked as a pastor in Langelsheim .

Since 1975 he has been the founder of the Meissen Peace Seminar , advising conscripts and as an employee of the Peace Issues section of the Theological Studies Department at the Federation of Evangelical Churches in the GDR, and played a key role in church peace work. From 1992 to 1996 he was chairman of the German branch of the International Union of Reconciliation .

On May 31, 2008, Erich Iltgen, President of the State Parliament, awarded him the Saxon Constitutional Medal “for his services as a pioneer of the peaceful revolution” . On October 13, 2009, he received the Saxon Order of Merit on the occasion of "20 Years of Peaceful Revolution " .

Albrecht died on September 27, 2015 at the age of 73. He was buried in the Trinity Cemetery in Dresden.
