history
The first indirect mention of Wellerswalde is the mention of Ernst von Wellerswalda around 968. In 1266 the place Weldericheswalde was first mentioned in a document, around 1441 the knight seat of the Truchsess zu Welderßwalde is listed. It was a castle surrounded by two moats. It withstood a siege by the Hussites during the Hussite marches in 1429/30 . Around 1472 the Truchseß von Bornitz family owned the Wellerswalde manor , probably descendants of the previous owners. Around 1500 these provided for a comprehensive repair of the Gothic church.
After several changes of ownership and looting in the Thirty Years War earned around 1,654 of 1,635 ennobled electoral Saxon lawyer and imperial councilor Johann Georg von Oppel land ownership Weller forest. His son of the same name had the manor, which burned down in 1684, renewed. His descendants had the church largely rebuilt right next to the manor in 1702 and rebuilt in 1782. In 1856 the old mansion was converted into a Tudor style castle. The estate remained in the possession of the von Oppel family until 1945. After the landlords were expropriated, the manor house served as accommodation for refugees from Silesia. In 1948 the two-storey castle and gatehouse were demolished and in 1949 the castle tower was blown up. The outbuildings have been preserved.
