history

By 1700

A Ernst von Wellerswalda is mentioned in a document around 968. Later, in 1266, a Weldericheswalde is mentioned in a document, around 1441 a knight's seat and in 1551 a manor Wellerswalde is listed. A parish church, Archidiakonat Dompropstei, sedes Oschatz / Mn, is mentioned in the records as early as 1500. Around 1472 the von Truchseß family from Bornitz became owners of Wellerswalde. Around 1500 these provided for a comprehensive repair of the Gothic church. After a few changes of ownership, the lawyer Johann Georg von Oppel acquired the Wellerswalde property around 1654.

From 1700

In 1702, a new church was built on behalf of the von Oppel family next to the entrance to the manor . From 1782 to 1784 the interior of the church was rebuilt. This is indicated by the saying: Auspicio generosissimi Domini Collatoris Johannis Siegismund de Oppel renovatio hujus templi facta est ao. 1784 . In 1812 changes were initiated by Messrs Julius Wilhelm von Oppel and Carl Wilhelm von Oppel . Half of the tower was also removed and renewed.

The rectory was built around 1824 and the tenant apartment around 1826. The stable building and barn are of an older date. To the east of the church is the church school, built in 1823.

In 1843, the then manor owner Carl Wilhelm von Oppel rebuilt the generous Gothic style burial chapel at right angles to the church building. This was fully occupied by family burials in the church choir. It was therefore necessary to redesign the room from around 1500 with a crypt below . In 1878 it was rebuilt again, changes to the gallery and the pulpit.

From 1900

After 1945 the von Oppel family was expropriated and expelled. Initially, several resettled families lived in the adjacent castle. The castle, built in 1854, was blown up on May 24, 1949 as part of the land reform .

In the GDR times, some renovations were carried out to preserve the church. In 1993 and 1994 the church was extensively renovated. In 2015 the organ was renovated and was ceremoniously consecrated on September 11th. Thanks to a generous donation from the von Oppel family, a comprehensive, thorough renovation was possible between 2010 and 2011. Wellerswalde Church has been part of the Borna Evangelical Lutheran parish since 2011 .

architecture

The Gothic north sacristy and the choir were included in the new building. The nave and the tower on the south side are built in the Baroque style. The family coat of arms of the church donors from Oppel is located above the entrance portal . The tower floor with the bells is octagonal, a curved hood with a lantern and a gold-plated weather vane form the top of the tower.

Furnishing

The interior was kept white and has a baroque character. The chairs and the galleries are in a subtle shade of gray and give a festive look.

The current organ from 1908 was installed by the organ construction company Schmidt & Berger from Borna. The instrument has over 14 registers and 754 pipes. The smallest pipe measures six centimeters and the largest 4.60 meters. It's a pneumatic organ. The Art Nouveau prospectus was designed in 1908 by the Dresden architect Richard Schleinitz . A tomb inside the church commemorates Carl Wilhelm von Oppel , the most deserving and famous manor owner and church patron of Wellerswalde. He was a Saxon mountain ridge , director of the Meißner porcelain factory and chief tax collector as well as director of the coal works in Plauenschen Grund between Dresden and Freital .

Peal

The original ringing consisted of two bronze bells, the larger one was from 1491 and the second bell from 1537. This had to be given in 1942 as a metal donation for armaments purposes and was found again after the Second World War and installed in the tower. The original third bell was also confiscated for armament purposes and was not replaced.

The current chime consists of two bronze bells. The bell cage consists of a wooden structure and the bell yokes are made of steel. The following is a data overview:
