Rudolf-Walter Crisolli (born April 10, 1932 in Berlin ; † February 21, 1970 near Würenlingen , Switzerland ) was a German television journalist.

Life

Rudolf Crisolli was born as the son of the lawyer Karl-August Crisolli and his wife Ellen. His father died three years after Rudolf was born.

His career began with Bayerischer Rundfunk . He initially then worked in the archives, as assistant to the recording head in the Bavarian television . He quickly rose to the position of production manager, and on August 12, 1960, his first report was broadcast in the Abendschau . In two years he produced more than 200 articles. After founding ZDF , he moved to the Bavarian state studio of the new television station.

From 1967 onwards, Crisolli traveled around the world and repeatedly reported from crisis regions such as Vietnam , Biafra and the Middle East . On 13 June 1968 he survived the crash of a Boeing 707-321C of Pan Am near the airport Dum Dum Kolkata . Since then he has been plagued by fear of flying . In the position of chief reporter for ZDF, he was killed in a plane crash on February 21, 1970 as a passenger on Swissair flight 330 in a bomb attack. He was on his way from Asia to Israel to represent a ZDF colleague there. Crisolli had booked a supposedly safe Swissair flight in order to avoid a flight with the Israeli airline El Al , whose planes were repeatedly targets of Arab - Palestinian terrorists .

Rudolf Crisolli was the uncle of the HR television journalist Georg M. Hafner . He was also the author of the documentary film Munich 1970. When the terror came to us , in which the relatives of Crisolli have their say and who discusses the historical context.

On the premises of the ZDF broadcasting center in Mainz , a street name commemorates the murdered journalist.
