Rudolf Friedrich Weinland

Rudolf Heinrich Friedrich Weinland (born November 22, 1865 in Hohenwittlingen , † July 13, 1936 in Tübingen ) was a German pharmacist and chemist .

Life

Rudolf Friedrich Weinland was born as the son of the zoologist David Friedrich Weinland . He attended the Latin school in Urach and later the Lyceum in Esslingen am Neckar . He began his pharmaceutical training in 1880 in the Salzmann'sche pharmacy in Esslingen. Three years later he passed his assistant examination in Stuttgart . He then conditioned for another three years in Freiburg , Geneva , Metz and Baden-Baden . From 1887 he studied pharmacy at the polytechnic school in Stuttgart . After taking the state examination in 1889, he studied at the University of Erlangen Chemistry , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . From 1893 to 1902 he worked at the University of Munich as a university assistant.

After completing his Matura in 1894 , Weinland completed his habilitation in pharmaceutical chemistry in 1899 . In 1902 he took over from Theodor Paul as an associate professor for pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Tübingen . The main reasons for his appointment were his experience as a pharmacist and his field of work, inorganic chemistry. During his teaching activity in Tübingen, Weinland supervised numerous dissertations , although these were assigned to the professorships teaching at the institute due to the doctoral regulations.

In 1920 Weinland went to the University of Würzburg as full professor for pharmaceutical and applied chemistry . There he was director of the pharmaceutical institute until 1931. Weinland declined further appointments from various universities, such as in 1918 the appointment to the chair of pharmacy at the Reich University of Strasbourg.

The main field of work of Weinland was inorganic and preparative chemistry as well as the chemistry of complex compounds. He was one of the first to the coordination theory of Alfred Werner noticed and recognized.
