Rudolf Gröger (Manager)

Rudolf "Rudi" Gröger (born October 16, 1954 in Munich ; † October 6, 2015 there ) was a German manager and university president. From 2001 to 2007 he was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of O₂ Germany and a member of the board of the O₂ Group as well as a member of the O₂ Board Telefonica SA. Since November 1, 2009, he has been President of Munich Business School .

Professional background

From 1996 to 1998 Rudolf Gröger was the spokesman for the German management of Siemens AG as well as the Information & Communication Products division and SNI AG / Siemens Business Services .

From 1999 he worked for Deutsche Telekom AG in Bonn as spokesman for the management of the information and communication systems division until he finally became managing director of T-Systems in 2001, where he was responsible for sales, national companies and business lines. In the same year he also took over the management of sales at debis Systemhaus GmbH , responsible for international affairs and business lines.

Since October 2001 he has worked at O₂ (Germany) as CEO, since April 2003 he has also been on the board of O₂ plc  - the British parent company of O₂ (Germany) .

On October 1, 2007, he became Chairman of the newly established Supervisory Committee. The Spaniard Jaime Smith Basterra took over his position as Chairman of the Management Board . In the same year he founded the wireless communications discounter Snoog Mobile , which went bankrupt in 2010.

Since 2003 he has also given lectures at the Technical University of Munich .

In 2008, as president of the DVB-H consortium Mobile 3.0 , he demanded a ban on the sale of DVB-T cell phones in order to suppress the free alternative to the previously unsuccessful DVB-H offer of the mobile network operators.

From 2009 Gröger was President of the Munich Business School .

Gröger died on the night of October 6, 2015.

Awards and memberships

Rudolf Gröger received the “ National Leadership Award ” of the Economic Forum in 2003 and was given the Horizont Award in 2005 as “Entrepreneur of the Year” . On December 6, 2006, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Munich "in recognition of his outstanding achievements in operational management practice, particularly in the merging of technical and business knowledge in the areas of innovation, strategic management and operational change" .
