from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf Möller (* 1881 in Schmiedefeld , † 1967 in Lörrach ) was a German painter , graphic artist and drawing teacher .

Live and act

Rudolf Möller completed an apprenticeship as a drawing teacher at the Royal Art School in Berlin from 1905 to 1907 together with his brother Otto Möller . He was a student of Lovis Corinth . From 1916 Möller was a drawing teacher at a Berlin high school, and later he was a teacher for painting and art literature. In 1919 he became a member of the November Group, to which he belonged until its dissolution in 1935. As part of the November group, he was also involved in exhibitions. In 1925 his watercolor farm (image size 15.9 × 25.4 cm) was bought by the Prussian Ministry of Culture at an exhibition of the Novembergruppe (for 120 M) and sent to the Berlin National Gallery under inventory no. F III 768 (No. 1) transferred. It was confiscated on July 7, 1937 and taken to Munich for the “ Degenerate Art ” exhibition . It is considered destroyed.

During the time of National Socialism , his works were considered degenerate art . Despite his position in the school service, Möller was not a member of the NSDAP , which put him under strong political pressure. In 1940 he went to Dresden . In 1943 he was released from school prematurely and expelled from Dresden. He moved to Steinen im Wiesental , although he had to leave almost all of his pictures behind in Dresden.

Rudolf Möller was a member of the German Association of Artists . He had been married since 1916, his wife died in 1944. He moved to Lörrach in 1945, where he lived after the war and until his death.

Afterlife

Möller is one of the so-called lost generation artists who have only been rediscovered in recent years. His works are assigned to expressive realism . Occasionally, works by the artist are offered in auction shops.
