Rudolf Ruschel (* 1986 in Neunkirchen ) is an Austrian author . In 2020 his debut novel Ruhet in Friedberg was published .

Life

Rudolf Ruschel grew up in the Lower Austrian city ​​of Wiener Neustadt . After graduating from high school, he moved to Vienna and studied journalism and communication studies as well as theater, film and media studies at the University of Vienna .

The author has lived in Hamburg since 2013 and also works as a copywriter .

Works and reception

As an author , he received initial recognition in 2013. With his short story Letter to Karol's Mother , he won first place in the book journal writing competition. With the short story Plastic Balls , he was a finalist of the FM4 Wortlaut Literature Prize 2013.

In 2020 his debut novel Ruhet in Friedberg was published by btb Verlag . There are mostly positive reviews about this in the German press. This is the verdict of the magazine Gala : "As a debut, Rudolf Ruschel wrote a terrific absurd thriller about a couple of village slavers in the best Austrian slang". Brigitte online writes: “Ruhet in Friedberg is a pitch-black crime thriller with wonderfully quirky characters, a very unique sound and bitter turns. Seldom have humor and tension harmonized so well ”. The book also received positive reviews in the Swiss press. Hanspeter Eggenberger from the Tages-Anzeiger named the book the crime thriller of the week and said: "Black humor from the Austrian provinces, cleverly arranged". And in the Austrian press Mathias Ziegler from the Wiener Zeitung notes that the author primarily describes the characters of the Undertaker "(...) pulls through the cocoa with particularly great attention to detail".
