Rudolf von Tiefenbach , also Teuffenbach (born November 26, 1582 in Graz , † March 4, 1653 ) was an Imperial Habsburg general who took part in the Thirty Years' War .

Life

Teuffenbach , who belonged to the baron class , joined the Habsburg army despite his Protestant faith and was appointed court war councilor in 1613 . Under Bucquoy , Tiefenbach was promoted to sergeant-general in 1619 . He took part in the Battle of the White Mountain in 1620 and, after Bucquoy's death in July 1621, took over the supreme command of the imperial troops in Hungary . In 1623 he converted to the Catholic faith and was made field marshal under Wallenstein until 1631 . Friedrich Schiller lets some members of his regiment ("Tiefenbacher") appear in Wallenstein's camp , who are supposed to shed light on their commander, who (according to Schiller's historical studies) does not seem to have been an iron eater.

In 1631 Tiefenbach ended his military service due to several Habsburg defeats, but received his rule over Gitschin in Bohemia after Wallenstein's murder in February 1634 . The Infantry Regiment Rudolf Frhr. von Tieffenbach, but was continued and belonged to the reserves at Schönefeld during the battle of Nördlingen . It was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Teutschvoll and later took part in the containment of Urach .

In 1899, Teuffenbachstrasse was named after him in Vienna- Leopoldstadt (2nd district) .
