The Ruhlaer Skihütte is a small settlement on the Rennsteig that belongs to the Winterstein district of the town of Waltershausen in the Gotha district.
geography
The Ruhlaer Skihütte is located on Landesstraße 1027 ( Liebensteiner Straße ). Because of its altitude ( 660.4 m above sea level ) on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest, the place is considered to be relatively "snow-sure". Hikers can also take the hiking bus from Eisenach via Ruhla to the Großer Inselsberg or on the regional bus route Gotha - Bad Salzungen to reach the Ruhla ski hut . The closest places are Winterstein ( district Gotha ), Ruhla, Seebach , Steinbach (all Wartburg district ) and Brotterode ( district Schmalkalden-Meiningen ).
history
The " Schweinaer Straße", which was already important in the High Middle Ages, and the "Weinstraße" coming up from Schmerbach met the Rennsteig in the area of the "Hinteren Schwarzbachswiese". A settlement created by forest workers and a rest area for carts still existed in the 17th century, when this area belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha . The hunting interests of the dukes apparently prevented the expansion into a town.
In the 1930s, the Ruhler ski hut was built by Max Raebel and his winter sports friends and inaugurated in 1932. The log cabin, which is also popular as a refuge and hiking accommodation, still exists and is now operated as a traditional restaurant. In the 1960s, the procured VEB Solidor Marienthal at the district council Gotha permission for the construction of a children's holiday camp. A bungalow village was also built in the neighborhood. The children's camp building was expanded and later the hotel and restaurant "Rennsteighof". In the 1990s, a falconer and ornithologist built the “bird of prey station on the Rennsteig” next to the “Ruhlaer Skihütte” inn.
