Russell Williams II (born October 14, 1952 in Washington, DC ) is an American sound engineer .

Life

Williams studied film , art history, and literature at American University . He then got a job in Los Angeles at the local television station WRC-TV, which is operated by NBC . He began his film career in 1976, initially with short films . One of the first major film projects with his involvement was Tobe Hooper's horror film Invasion of Mars 1986. In 1990 he received the Oscar for Best Sound for Glory , along with Donald O. Mitchell , Gregg Rudloff and Elliot Tyson . The following year he received his second Oscar, this time with Jeffrey Perkins , Bill W. Benton and Gregory H. Watkins for Dances with Wolves . For the latter film, he was also nominated for the BAFTA Film Award in the Best Sound category. He also received two Primetime Emmys for his television work, including William Friedkin's television film The 12 Jurors .

Since 2002 he has been teaching at American University.
