Ruud Pronk

Rudy "Ruud" Pronk (born July 13, 1931 in Banjuwangi , Java ) is a Dutch jazz drummer .

Live and act

After a childhood in Indonesia , during which he was influenced by his older brother Rob , who played in a big band as early as the 1940s , he appeared with his siblings on the radio program and was honored with them for interpreting a jazz title. He played the clarinet in school orchestras before switching to drums . In 1947 he moved to Holland. His brother introduced him to the world of modern jazz ; he played in Rob Pronks Boptet , which was named the best jazz band in the Netherlands in 1956. In the next few years he was touring Belgium and Germany with Bobby Jaspar , René Thomas and Fats Sadi ; Further international tours with Ruud Kuyper, Herman Schoonderwalt , Ruud Jacobs and Hein van der Gaag followed. In 1958 he settled in Spain, where he worked as a teacher at a secondary school, but continued to play in Central Europe, for example in the trio of Jack van Poll . He also accompanied American guest soloists and performed with musicians such as Cees Slinger , Chris Hinze , Ack and Jerry van Rooyen , Stéphane Grappelli and Barney Wilen . He also played as the Dutch representative in the Peter Stuyvesant Jazz Orchestra directed by George Gruntz . He made several tours through Spain with his Dutch Jazz Quartet . He also recorded with Tony Vos and Rob Madna ( Jazz behind the Dikes 3 ), Gary Crosby , Ann Burton , Pim Jacobs and Rita Reys .

As an amateur photographer, he has had several exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.

Prizes and awards

In 1956 he won the prize for best drummer at an international jazz competition in Düsseldorf ; at the Berlin Jazz Festival in 1963 he was honored with the Soloist Prize.
