Ryōhei Arai (born June 23, 1991 in Nagatoro ) is a Japanese javelin thrower .
Athletic career
Ryōhei Arai gained his first international experience at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan , where he finished eighth with 75.83 m. The following year he won the Asian Games in Incheon with 84.42 m, the silver medal behind the Chinese Zhao Qinggang . In 2015 he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he finished ninth with 83.07 m in the final . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he finished eleventh with 79.47 m in the final . The following year he again took part in the World Championships in London , but this time retired with 77.38 m in qualification . At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta , he finished seventh with a width of 75.24 m.
In 2019 he won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Doha with a width of 81.93 m behind the Taiwanese Cheng Chao-tsun and Shivpal Singh from India. This enabled him to take part in the ebendor world championships in October, where he was eliminated from the qualification with 81.71 m .
Between 2014 and 2019, Arai became the Japanese javelin throwing champion every year.
