history

The settlement of the village began in 1852. Reformed Hungarians from the area around Cenad and later also Germans from the surrounding Banat villages, especially from Glogowatz , were settled. The official place name was Szentleanyfalva . The German residents called the village Sentlein .

After the Banat was divided into three on June 4, 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Trianon , Szentleanyfalva fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Since then, Sânleani has been the official place name.

In 1945 several Romanian families from the Kreischtal and the Apuseni Mountains settled in Sânleani. The 90 Romanian families started building an Orthodox church in 1969, which was completed in 1977.
