history
The first settlement began as early as 1821. On September 13, 1870, the hamlet received the status of Vila de São Sebastião do Paraíso , in 1873 that of a cidade, with which the rights of self-government were connected. Emigrants from Italy had a great influence on the development of the community.
City administration
After the local elections in Brazil in 2016, the executive power for the term from 2017 to 2020 lies with the city prefect (mayor) Walker Américo Oliveira of the Partido Trabalhista Brasileiro (PTB). His predecessor Rêmolo Aloise des Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) had to resign on September 19, 2016 due to a scandal. This involved referrals to the Sagrado Coração de Jesus Hospital, owned by the Aloise family. The legislature rests with a city council ( Câmara Municipal ) made up of ten elected city councilors ( vereadores ).
