Søren Seidelin Winther

Søren Seidelin Winther (born September 16, 1810 in Hundslund ( Odder Kommune in Jutland ), † May 11, 1847 in Rome ) was a Danish sculptor and ivory carver .

Life

Søren Seidelin Winther was the son of the clergyman Peter Winther (1764–1816). He learned the profession of art turner before he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1838 to 1841 . In the years 1839 to 1845 he exhibited mostly portraits carved from ivory at Danish art exhibitions, but also worked with plaster of paris and biscuit porcelain . For a time he worked at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen. Winther worked in Northern Germany in 1842 and went to Rome in 1843. There he worked for E. Braun's Galvanoplastische Anstalt in the institute for archaeological correspondence . He died of tuberculosis and was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Rome.

His daughter Anna Kirstine Severine (* 1843), who was born in Rome, married the former Danish Councilor and Minister for Schleswig in both cabinets, Hall Friedrich Hermann Wolfhagen (1818-1894).
