The SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen is a German sports club from Lüdinghausen . With around 2100 members, the SCU is the largest sports club in the city.

History and departments

The club was founded in July 1908 as FC Union 08, where athletics were also played alongside football. In the 1920s, SC Rot-Weiß Lüdinghausen was re-established, which ceased gaming operations in 1936. On December 15, 1945, the club was re-established under the current name SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen. The association offers badminton , basketball , soccer , athletics , taekwondo / martial arts , table tennis , triathlon , gymnastics / gymnastics and volleyball .

The club's badminton athletes ensured the greatest successes. The members of the club won almost 200 medals at German championships, 21 of them among adults. The club's first team has played in the 1st Bundesliga since 2002 and became German team champions for the first time in the club's history on May 11, 2014 after a 4-2 win in the final against 1. BV Mülheim.

history

The footballers of the SC Union Lüdinghausen rose five times in the Landesliga Westfalen . The ascents in 1966, 1992 and 2012 were followed by direct relegation, while the Lüdinghausener only had to descend after two years after the ascension in 2001 and 2005. The greatest success was the sixth place in the 2001/02 season. The team mostly shuttled between the district league and district league A. Since their promotion in 2016, the Unioners have played in the district league.
