Career

In 2005 she moved to Mülheim and trained there at the base of the German women's team. In 2008 she qualified for the roster of German Olympic participants together with Kristof Hopp in mixed and was also nominated for participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Here they lost in the first round against the Indonesians Flandy Limpele and Vita Marissa, who were in third place, in two sets.

In 2012 she won the gold medal at the European team championships with the German women's national team. After the resignation of her doubles partner Sandra Marinello after the unsuccessful qualification for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Birgit Michels competed in the first European SuperSeries tournament, the Denmark Open 2012, in women's doubles with Johanna Goliszewski . At the end Birgit played internationally with Isabel Herttrich .

With Michael Fuchs, she also qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
