The BB 9200 is a French electric locomotive series for use on the direct current network of the SNCF with 1.5 kV. The locomotives were built by Creusot-Loire, Jeumont-Schneider and CEM between 1957 and 1964.

The BB 9200 are equipped with the bogies designed by André Jacquemin and tested with the BB 9004 locomotives . From this the nickname BB Jacquemin or BB MTE of the series as well as the related types BB 9300 , BB 9700 , BB 16000 / BB 16100 , BB 25100 / BB 25150 and BB 25200 are derived .

commitment

At the beginning of their service life, the locomotives in the series hauled the well-known passenger trains in the south-west region, starting from the Austerlitz station in Paris in the direction of Toulouse and Bordeaux . The best known are their missions on the Le Capitole express train between Paris and Toulouse. It was the first train in Europe that was scheduled to run at a speed of 200 km / h. The six BB 9200s (nicknamed BB rouges ) specially equipped for the Capitole were the first high-speed locomotives (top speed over 160 km / h) of the SNCF in scheduled long-distance traffic.

The BB 9200 were soon used in the entire southwest of France. Starting from the Gare de Lyon in Paris, the machines also hauled numerous trains on the southeastern network of the SNCF.

With the delivery of the locomotives of the more powerful CC 6500 series , they had to cede their prestigious services to this series. At the latest with the delivery of the BB 7200 and the commissioning of the TGV Atlantique , they were displaced into subordinate passenger and freight train services.

Due to their age and the reduced demand in freight transport, the remaining 48 machines were used entirely in regional transport from 2003 onwards. In December 2010, the use of the last ten remaining locomotives, which were used in regional traffic between the regions of Île de France and Center , also ended. As of January 1, 2015, there are still three machines in the SNCF's inventory. However, they can no longer be used on their own, but are only kept available to remove frost from the contact line.

Technical

The four drive motors of type GLM 931 B are positively ventilated. Each transmits the torque with a one-sided cardan drive to its wheel set.

The two double-arm pantographs of type B 2 are located above the pivot point of the bogies, and the center contact strip is therefore 9,200 mm apart. The driver's cab protrudes from the buffer beam up to 195mm. The car body is 15,400 mm long, but the distance between the buffer beams is only 15,010 mm. 595 mm long buffers are installed, which results in a length over the buffers of 16,200 mm.
