The Stadtsportverein Gera 1990 eV , or SSV Gera for short, is a sports club based in Gera in Thuringia. The focus of sporting activity is cycling.

The SSV Gera 1990 eV emerged from the sports association Wismut Gera in the German Democratic Republic , which was founded on November 29, 1973 . In 1990 the entire GDR sport was in upheaval. With a lot of effort and great commitment, it was possible to transfer the up to then very successful cycling history of the city of Gera to the city sports club Gera 1990 eV. It was once such outstanding athletes from the GDR as Olaf Ludwig , Thomas Barth , Jens Heppner , Lutz Haueisen , Gerald Mortag , Jörg Köhler , Jens Gollhardt , Robert Kaiser , Hanka Kupfernagel and Enrico Poitschke who made Gera cycling nationally and internationally known , with SSV Gera 1990 eV today there are athletes like Jens Lehmann , Sebastian Siedler , Michael Seidenbecher , Eric Baumann , Tina Liebig , André Greipel , John Degenkolb , René Enders , Robert Förstemann , Jannis Peter or Lena Charlotte Reissner . Cycling

Cycling is the great task and passion of SSV Gera 1990 eV, which is based on the site of the traditional cycling facility in Gera. Many nationally and internationally successful cyclists, even world champions and Olympic champions, have already trained here.

Olaf Ludwig Cup

Under the patronage of Olaf Ludwig, the Olympic champion in Seoul in 1988 and two-time winner of the International Peace Ride (1982 and 1986), the SSV Gera 1990 eV has been organizing the Gera Cycling Day for the “Olaf Ludwig Cup” on the traditional Gera cycling track since 2006 -Debschwitz . The patron Olaf Ludwig is not only the guest of honor of the event, but is available to the school children all day long for tips and autographs and personally hands over the coveted trophies to the winners. Every year more than 200 Gera schoolchildren in grades 3 to 6 compete to try out cycling.

Gera Junior Track Cup

Several competitions with an omnium rating take place here for athletes from U9 to U17. This series of competitions has been held as the TAG Wohnen Junior BahnCup since 2018.

Bicycle day of the Gera schools

An organized cycling day for the 5th and 6th graders of the Gerar schools around cycling, such as ergometer test, tire change, first aid and healthy nutrition. The Gera Bicycle Day was held for the first time in 2018 at the “Otto Dix” regular school and in 2019 at the Karl-Theodor-Liebe Gymnasium.

East Thuringia tour

The East Thuringia Tour is a cycling stage race for school riders in the age groups U11m / f, U13m / f and U15w, which has been held annually in and around Gera since 2003. For the first time in the history of the tour, it was canceled for 2020 due to the corona pandemic . The 18th East Thuringia tour is not planned until 2021.

The club has an athletics and fitness area for the training of athletes, which can also be used by other club members.

social commitment

The SSV Gera 1990 eV gave the deaf cyclist Leon Brunnert a chance and integrated it into cycling training. He is 2-time German youth champion 2019 in deaf cycling, road racing and time trial, with his former club GSV Chemnitz.
