Saaxil (also Sahil or Sahel, in German "coast") is an administrative region ( gobolka ) in the internationally not recognized Somaliland in northern Somalia . It is located on the coast of the Gulf of Aden . Its capital is the port city of Berbera .

The region was created in 1996 by the Somaliland authorities when the coastal strip of the Woqooyi Galbeed region was spun off as a separate region. According to the administrative structure of Somalia , it is still part of the Woqooyi Galbeed region, of which Hargeysa is the capital .
