Woqooyi Galbeed (Somali for "northwest"; Arabic وقوي غلبيد Wuqūy Ghalbayd ) is a region ( gobolka ) in northern Somalia . It is part of the internationally not recognized Somaliland . Its capital is Hargeysa , which is also the capital of Somaliland.

According to the administrative structure of Somalia , the port city of Berbera on the Gulf of Aden also belongs to Woqooyi Galbeed; In Somaliland, however, the coastal strip of Woqooyi Galbeed forms a separate Saaxil region with Berbera as the capital.
