Sabhar ( Bengali : সাভার , Sābhār ; English : Savar ) is a city in Bangladesh , about 30 km northwest of Dhaka's suburbs . 129,000 people live there on around 280 km².
history
In 1912 the place was established as a police station. In 1983 he received Upazila status . In Sabhar there is also the Jatiyo Sriti Shoudho monument , which is dedicated to the martyrs of the Bangladeshi war of independence .
In a building collapse on April 24, 2013 , more than 1,127 people were killed and at least 2,438 injured.
Facilities
The Jahangirnagar University is located in Sabhar, which is known both for its scenic location as a tourist attraction and as an approach point for numerous wintering migratory birds .
reactor
The only nuclear reactor in Bangladesh is located in Sabhar . It is a research reactor called the TRIGA Mark II, supplied by General Atomics and operated by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. The 3 MW reactor is registered with the IAEA .
The TRIGA reactor was developed in the 1950s as part of the “ Atoms for Peace ” project and is used as a research reactor in numerous countries.
education
There is a state university in Sabhar as well as several schools and a kindergarten.
