Sabine Ress (born October 21, 1904 in Berlin ; † July 10, 1985 ; also as Sabine Reß ) was a German dancer , ballet master , dance teacher and choreographer .

Life

Sabine Ress received ballet lessons from Margarete Altmann and Eugenie Eduardowa . She gained her first stage experience with performances (dance evenings) with the ballet school of Eugenie Eduardowa. As early as 1922 she was teaching independently and in the 1930s she performed her own ballet in the Berlin Wintergarten and La Scala . In 1938 she opened a ballet school in Berlin. Her students included the dancers Lula von Sachnowsky, Karin von Aroldingen and Natascha Trofimowa . From 1938 to 1943 she also held the position of ballet master at the Theater am Nollendorfplatz . She held the same position at the Komische Oper from 1947 to 1951 . From the end of September to the beginning of October 1958, Ress was involved in the spectacular Fledermaus performance in the Deutschlandhalle, which holds 10,000 spectators, on the occasion of the Berliner Festwochen .

From 1933 Sabine Ress also worked as a film choreographer. Her early work included the choreography of Ich und die Kaiserin and Viktor and Viktoria . She later choreographed many times in films with Marika Rökk until the 1960s . Among them were The Beggar Student , Gasparone , And You, My Darling , Are Going With Us , It was a glittering ball night , Kora Terry , sensation in San Remo , mask in blue , The night before the premiere , My husband, the economic miracle and wedding night in paradise . Furthermore, she took over the choreography for some television productions, such as in 1961 and 1962 in the show Music from all over the world , which was broadcast from the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin on the occasion of the international radio exhibition in 1961 by the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) .
