Saif al-Arab al-Gaddafi ( Arabic سيف العرب القذافي, DMG Saifu l-ʿArab al-Qaḏḏāfī ; * probably 1982 in Tripoli ; † April 30, 2011 ibid) was the sixth son of Muammar al-Gaddafi and his second wife Safaja Farkash . He was considered one of the less influential children of the Libyan dictator (Gaddafi had six sons and one daughter ).

Life

In 2006 Saif al-Arab came to Munich on an Italian tourist visa, but required a national permanent residence visa for a planned course of study. According to the Justice Minister Beate Merk (CSU), the visa was not obtained because of the “considerable foreign policy and foreign economic interests of the Federal Republic in Libya”.

Between November 2006 and July 2010 ten proceedings and one preliminary investigation were pending with the public prosecutor's office against him, as the news magazine Der Spiegel reported , citing the Bavarian Ministry of Justice. The allegations included threats, driving without a license, alcohol driving, arms smuggling, incitement to murder and assault. Most of the proceedings have been dropped by the judiciary and some have been fined. The Munich police chief Wilhelm Schmidbauer was exposed to public criticism after it became known that he had been invited to dinner by Saif al-Arab Gaddafi in the Munich 5-star hotel Bayerischer Hof . The Bavarian Greens charged that the termination of numerous investigations had to do with the allegedly good relations he had with the Munich police headquarters and for this reason made several parliamentary questions. At times Saif al-Arab was registered as resident in Zorneding , where he was employed by a construction machinery company. After he left Germany, the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior declared that his settlement permit had expired. He was also given an entry ban .

On April 30, 2011, Saif al-Arab al-Gaddafi and three of the grandsons of Muammar al-Gaddafi were killed in a NATO air raid on Bab al-Aziziya , his father's residence in Tripoli, as part of the international military operation in Libya, according to Libyan information killed. The Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli , Bishop Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli , and a French doctor confirmed his death.
