Saint-Médard is a village and a former commune with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Deux-Sèvres in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Niort and the canton of Celles-sur-Belle . The inhabitants are called Saint-Médardais .

With effect from January 1, 2019, the previous municipalities of Celles-sur-Belle and Saint-Médard were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Celles-sur-Belle of the same name and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . At the same time, the former municipalities of Montigné and Verrines-sous-Celle , which had been associated with Celle-sur-Belle as Commune associée since 1973 , were granted the status of Commune déléguée . The administrative headquarters are located in Celles-sur-Belle .

Saint-Médard is located about 16 kilometers southeast of Niort . The municipality of Saint-Médard was surrounded by the neighboring towns of Brûlain in the west, Sainte-Blandine in the north, Celles-sur-Belle in the east and Périgné in the south.
