Salamat is a region of Chad and corresponds to the former prefecture of the same name. Their capital is Am Timan . The region has about 261,000 inhabitants.

Salamat has an area of 63,000 km², is located in the southeast of the country and borders on the Central African Republic . The region is named after the Salamat River . In the region lies the Ramsar Plaines d'inondation des Bahr Aouk et Salamat , which is one of the world's largest protected areas of this type.

economy
The population in Salamat lives mainly from subsistence farming , animal husbandry, fishing and the cultivation of millet and peanuts.
