Salmo macedonicus is a species from the family of Salmonidae (Salmonidae), which is endemic in the upper region of the Vardar with the exception of Crna Reka in Macedonia occurs.
features
Salmo macedonicus reaches a length of up to 40 centimeters. On the flanks, especially in the front area, there are numerous large, eye-like dark wine-red spots, the center of which is occasionally blackish. Large animals over 30 centimeters long have three vertical black bars in the back of the body, which can be clearly seen when stressed. The dorsal fin has a few pale wine-red spots. In animals from the area of the Doduna and Basnica , the front spots on the body are black.
Way of life
Little is known about the way of life of the species. It inhabits fast-flowing waters and is often found on rapids and waterfalls.
