The Salmo stomachicus is a species from the family of salmon fish (salmonids), which is endemic in Lough Melvin occurs in the north of Ireland and possibly in other Irish and Scottish lochs.

features

The species reaches a length of up to 36 centimeters. The body height is found 3.3 to 3.8 times the standard length . Body and fins are golden brown to yellow with numerous black spots, in addition there are bright orange-red spots, which are mainly found on and below the lateral line organ .

Way of life

Salmo stomachicus inhabits shallow water areas of the lake. Mainly snails and caddis-fly larvae serve as food , as well as other bottom-dwelling invertebrates. From November to December spawning is placed near the lake drain and possibly on the sandy north shore.
