Sam Bettens
Sam Bettens (* 23. September 1972 as Sarah Bettens in chapels ) is a Belgian musician in the United States lives. Together with his brother Gert Bettens he forms the regular line-up of the Belgian band K's Choice . He started his solo career in 1993 under the name Sarah Beth, and appeared as Sarah Bettens in 2003. In 2019 he announced that he would be named Sam as a trans man . His musical role models are the Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin .
biography
In the early 1990s, Bettens played with his brother Gert in the amateur band "The Basement Plugs". Both were discovered and they were offered their first record deals. They released their debut album under the name "The Choice". They later changed the name to "K's Choice". Three studio albums were created, the single Not an Addict was particularly successful . When K's Choice took a year-long hiatus in 2003, Bettens began producing a solo album. First he brought out the mini album Go uit and in March 2005 the album Scream was released . In 2005 he wrote his first Dutch / Flemish title Leef , the theme song of the film of the same name Leef! has been. On January 23, 2006, a duet by Bettens and Stash was released as a single, I Need a Woman . In December 2006 he toured Flanders with Tom Kesten with the theater tour From Scream to Whisper . In 21 days, Bettens played 17 sold-out concerts. The album Shine , planned for September 2007 , was published free of charge with the newspaper in 120,000 copies on October 13, 2007 by the Flemish newspaper De Morgen in collaboration with Universal Music. This campaign was an extraordinary success, the newspaper was able to distribute 60,000 more copies. The Belgian purchase edition of Shine includes six additional live tracks. Two songs, Daddy's Gun and I Can't Get Out , were offered as singles. At the end of 2008 Bettens toured Western Europe with the theater group “Never Say Goodbye” . For these concerts alone he produced the CD Never Say Goodbye , on which mainly live recordings of the 2006 From Scream to Whisper tour can be heard. These include two cover versions: Cry Me a River by Julie London and I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt .
Bettens is also on the 2008 album October of Bløf with the titles Van veraf was het zo mooi , Labrador and Hoe long blijf each within? to listen.
On April 25, 2009 he was one of the guests of the Nekka Night . Here he sang Leef in a duet with Klaas Delrue von Yevgueni , De aarde in a duet with Jan de Wilde and Als je zomaar weg zou gaan with Zjef Vanyutsel. Bettens was also heard on the album Kingdom of Contradiction by the Dutch band Intwine with a cover version of Walking on the Moon by The Police .
Sam Bettens lives in Johnson City, Tennessee with his girlfriend Steph . They adopted two children together: Justin and Taylor.
