Amphoe Sam Phran ( Thai : อำเภอ สามพราน , spoken: [ ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː săːm pʰraːn ]; other spelling: Sampran ) is the southernmost district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the Nakhon Pathom province . The Nakhon Pathom Province is located in the middle of the central region of Thailand .
geography
The neighboring Amphoe are clockwise from the north: Mueang Nakhon Pathom , Nakhon Chai Si and Phutthamonthon of Nakhon Pathom Province, Thawi Watthana and Nong Khaem of Bangkok , Krathum Baen and Ban Phaeo of Samut Sakhon Province and Bang Phae of Ratchaburi Province .
The main water resource of Sam Phran is the Mae Nam Tha Chin (Tha Chin River, also: “Nakhon Chai Si River”), which flows through the district in large meanders in a south-easterly direction.
Economy and culture
Sam Phran is known for its clothing and textile factories, many of which manufacture exclusively for internationally known brand companies. Another important economic factor is the extensive pig breeding.
While Sam Phran managed to retain the character of a rural small town, the other town in the region, Om Yai, is a bustling business, shopping, market and manufacturing area with modern facilities such as shopping centers, clinics and hospitals.
The subdistrict of Tha Kham (mostly written as Takham ) is the center of the Roman Catholic Christian denomination of Thailand. Michael Michai Kitbunchu , the Cardinal of Thailand, was born in Sam Phran, many Catholic communities have their monasteries and headquarters here. The largest seminary in Thailand is also located here.
Other colleges such as the National Police Academy and St. Joseph Intertechnology College are based in the city of Sam Phran.
history
The district was established in 1896. Its original name was Talat Mai ( New Market ). It was renamed Sam Phran in 1917.
Attractions
- The Rose Garden ( สวน สามพราน , Suan Sam Phran ) in Tha Kham is a large garden complex on the Nakhon Chai Si River with several restaurants and an international hotel and conference center. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Thailand with daily shows and demonstrations of Thai culture.
- The Samphran Elephant Ground and Crocodile Farm ( ลาน แสดง ช้าง และ ฟาร์ม จระเข้ สามพราน ) is one of the largest of its kind. Almost every Thai schoolchild has attended the demonstrations of trained elephants and crocodiles.
- Wat Rai Khing ( วัด ไร่ ขิง ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) located directly on the bank of the Chai-Si River (another name for Mae Nam Tha Chin); inaugurated in 1791 under the name Wat Mongkol Chinda Ram Rai Khing , but briefly called Wat Rai Khing by the locals . Directly at the temple in Mae Nam Tha Chin is one of several fish sanctuaries of Tha Chin.
- Talat Nam Don Wai ( ตลาดน้ำ ดอน หวาย ), just a few kilometers northeast of Wat Rai Khing. Don Wai is a traditional " waterfront market " ( Talad = Market Nam = water). As the actual Thai name correctly says, traditionally it was by no means a "floating" market, whereby the trade, as can often be seen in tourist brochures, apparently takes place on tiny boats in the water. Rather, visitors and traders once came to these markets by boat. In Don Wai it is located in a historic wooden building right on the banks of the Chai-Si River. It is popular with Thai day trippers from Bangkok as it sells many traditional local products, fish, fruit and other foods.

Local administration
There are three municipalities with "city" status ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district:
- Sam Phran (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง สามพราน ) consisting of the parts of the tambon Sam Phran, Tha Talat, Khlong Mai, Yai Cha.
- Rai Khing (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง ไร่ ขิง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Rai Khing.
- Krathum Lom (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง กระทุ่ม ล้ม ) consisting of the complete Tambon Krathum Lom.
There are two municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- Om Yai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล อ้อม ใหญ่ ) consisting of the complete Tambon Om Yai and parts of the Tambon Ban Mai.
- Bang Krathuek (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง ก ระทึก ) consisting of the complete Tambon Bang Krathuek.
In addition, there are twelve " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)
- Tha Kham (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ท่า ข้าม ) consisting of the complete Tambon Tha Kham.
- Song Khanong (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ทรง คน อง ) consisting of the complete tambon Song Khanong.
- Hom Kret (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล หอม เกร็ด ) consisting of the complete tambon Hom Kret.
- Bang Toei (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล บางเตย ) consisting of the complete Tambon Bang Toei.
