Sammy Amara (born June 22, 1979 in Düsseldorf ) is the singer, front man and songwriter of the German oi and punk rock band Broilers . He also works as a graphic designer .

Life

Sammy Amara's father came to Germany from Iraq in the 1960s . Sammy Amara grew up in Düsseldorf's southernmost district, Hellerhof . His father is a doctor and his mother worked as a secretary. Amara has a sister who is two years her junior. Sammy received his first electric guitar for Christmas at the age of 11.

In 1992 he founded his first band together with Andreas Brugge ( drums ), which was renamed the Broilers in 1994. At the time, both attended the Koblenzer Straße high school , which Ines Maybaum ( bass ) also attended, who joined the Broilers in 1995.

Originally the Broilers were a punk band, which over the years also integrated ska and rockabilly into their sound. With the texts, Sammy Amara and the Broilers also take a political stance. You turn against fascism and anti-Semitism .

In several interviews , Amara mentioned that he found it difficult to write about happy topics, which is why most of the songs have a pathetic , emotional mood. In his opinion, artists need to position themselves. He mainly writes new songs while in a bad mood. He also said that he did not consume alcohol while writing new songs or doing his graphic work.

Amara obtained his communication design diploma in 2013 after a total of 18 semesters of study. His own design office is called Amara Soul & Ivy . He is responsible for various artworks and web designs for well-known bands. For example: T-shirt design for Die Toten Hosen , cover work for 4 per thousand (album: Alte Schule; DVD: A last greeting: Live in Leipzig), The Porters (album: Anywhere But Home: Tales of a Sailor's Life), the Broilers , or for the sampler series Tales from the Street from the fashion label Hooligan Streetwear .
