Sammy Lelei

Sammy Lelei (born August 14, 1964 ) is a retired Kenyan marathon runner .

In 1993 he won the Lisbon half marathon in 59:24; however, the route turned out to be too short. Shortly afterwards he finished second in the Berlin half marathon in 1:00:42 h, at this point the third fastest time ever over this distance. In the same year he was fifth in the Boston and eighth in the New York City Marathon . After a fourth place in New York City in 1994 and a third place at the Paris Marathon the following year, he achieved his greatest triumph in autumn 1995: he won the Berlin Marathon in 2:07:02 - only Belayneh Dinsamo was faster over this before Been distance.

In 1996 he was fifth in Boston and third in Berlin; In 1997, also as third in the Berlin Marathon, he was able to build on his fabulous time for the last time with 2:08:00. Sammy Leley was temporarily trained by Dieter Hogen , Uta Pippig's partner , and suffered from malaria .
