Samuel Berger
Samuel Berger (born December 25, 1884 in Chicago , Illinois , † February 23, 1925 in San Francisco , California ) was an American boxer .
Berger, an American of Jewish origin, took part in the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis ( Missouri , USA) for the USA and won the first heavyweight gold medal . His professional career was short and unspectacular. The only big fight ended in 1906 against the light heavyweight "Philadelphia" Jack O'Brian draw in the sixth round. Berger later owned a textile business in San Francisco and was manager of James J. Jeffries . He was inducted into the " International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame ".
