San Gabriele dell'Addolorata (German: Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin ) is a titular church in Rome . It is located on Via Ponzio Cominio 93-95 in the Roman district of Don Bosco . Patron saint is Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin , civil Francesco Possenti , a member of the Passionists .

history

At the beginning of the parish there was the blessing of a house chapel in an apartment building in Via Livia Drusilla 79 by Ugo Poletti on March 27, 1970; the house chapel was dedicated to St. Gabriel. On November 1st 1981 Cardinal Poletti officially founded the parish of St. Gabriel.

On February 28, 2010 the church was inaugurated by Cardinal Vicar Agostino Vallini based on a design by the architect Gianni Testa (Giovanni Testa) . The foundation stone was laid on May 6, 2007 by Cardinal Vicar Camillo Ruini and the Roman Mayor Walter Veltroni . On February 14, 2015, the elevation to the title church of the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Francis followed .

The modern church is a low-rise building with an irregular pentagon formed from a square, partly adjacent to existing higher residential buildings. The main altar is located diagonally to the main entrance. The shell with partly windowless outer walls was clad with pale brown marble slabs.

Bells

The free-standing bell tower has five bells:

  • the first bell, La Risorta, weighs 200 kg and bears the text Resurrexit, Alleluia (Eng. He is risen, Hallelujah ). It shows the coat of arms of Pope Benedict XVI. and a picture of the risen Christ.
  • the second bell, called La Crocifissa ( The Crucified ), weighs 150 kg and bears the text Consumatum Est ( Eng . It is done ) as well as the coat of arms of Cardinal Camillo Ruini and a crucifix.
  • the third bell, La Sacra Famiglia ( The Holy Family ) weighs 110 kg and shows the words "Sancta Familia, ora pronobis" and a picture of the Nazareth family.
  • the fourth bell, L'Addolorata, weighs 85 kg and bears the inscription Mater Addolorata, ora pro nobis (English: Mother in Sorrows, pray for us ), the emblem of Bishop Ernesto Mandara and the symbol of Our Lady of Sorrows.
  • the fifth bell, La Gabriellina weighs 50 kg, the inscription reads Sancto Gabriel, ora pro nobis (Eng. Saint Gabriel, pray for us ). It shows the coat of arms of the first parish priest Fabio Paglioni and a picture of Saint Gabriel.
