San Juan del Piraí (also Colonia Piraí ) is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

San Juan del Piraí is the fourth largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) of San Pedro in the Obispo Santistevan province . The place is at an altitude of 208  m in the wetland between the Río Piraí and Río Grande . The municipality of San Pedro with about 10,000 inhabitants is a colonization area and is used intensively for agriculture.

San Juan del Piraí is located in a tropical, humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region has only been opened up in the last few decades and was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .

From the center of Santa Cruz, the paved highway Ruta 4 leads 57 kilometers north to Montero , from there Ruta 10 further north via General Saavedra , Mineros and Fernández Alonso to San Pedro and further in a north-westerly direction via the villages of Litoral and Hardeman to San Juan del Piraí and on to Canandoa .
