San Martín , also San Martín de los Llanos , is a municipality ( municipio ) in the Meta department in Colombia .

geography

San Martín is located in the center of Meta at an altitude of 420 meters 66 km from Villavicencio and 154 km from Bogotá and has an average annual temperature of 25 to 29 ° C. The municipality borders Guamal , Castilla la Nueva , San Carlos de Guaroa and Puerto López in the north, Puerto Gaitán in the east, Fuente de Oro , Puerto Lleras and Mapiripán in the south , and Granada , El Castillo , El Dorado and Cubarral in the west .

history

San Martín was founded in 1585 as Medina de las Torres on the road between San Juan de los Llanos and Tunja . After the settlement was completely destroyed by the indigenous peoples, it was re-established in 1641 at its current location as San Martín del Puerto . San Martín received the status of a municipality in 1958.
