3-gatsu no Lion ( Japanese 3 月 の ラ イ オ ン , 3-gatsu no Raion , also known as Sangatsu no Lion , German "Löwe (n) des März / von Sangatsu"), with the English alternative title March comes in like a lion , is a manga series by Chica Umino that was released in July 2007. Since October 2016, the manga is as Anime - television series adapted u. a. with German subtitles.
The title refers to the English idiom March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb , i.e. H. March begins cold and uncomfortable, but ends mild and pleasant.
action
The series is about the 17-year Shōgi poker players Rei Kiriyama ( 桐山零 ), which at the beginning of the fifth Dan has. Since both his sister and his parents died in a car accident, he lives with a friend of his father's who used to be his rival. From him, Rei learns to play Shogi. Rei also meets the three sisters Akari ( 川 本 あ か り ), Hinata ( 川 本 ひ な た ) and Momo Kawamoto ( 川 本 モ モ ) from the town of Sangatsu. The series covers both the development of the relationship between Rei and his social environment and his progress as a professional shogi player.

The first chapter of the manga was published on July 13, 2007 in the 14/2007 issue of Young Animal by Hakusensha . The individual chapters have so far been summarized in 13 anthologies , each of which has recently sold over 500,000 times. After the publication of the third volume in 2009, the series paused several times.

A spin-off called 3-gatsu no Lion Shōwa Ibun: Shakunetsu no Jidai ( 3 月 の ラ イ オ ン 昭和 異 聞 灼熱 の 時代 , "~ unusual Shōwa story: Searing Times") is drawn by Hideaki Nishikawa and has been published since March 29th 2015 (edition 9/2015) also in Young Animal . So far, two edited volumes have appeared.
Anime
In September 2015, Young Animal announced that an anime adaptation of the manga was planned.
The first season of 22 episodes ran from 8 October 2016 to 18 March 2017 NHK E . It was animated by Studio von Shaft under the direction of Akiyuki Shimbō with the character design by Nobuhiro Sugiyama.
Crunchyroll is streaming the series as a simulcast in North and South America and English-speaking countries. A German simulcast is carried out by Peppermint Anime under the title March Comes in Like a Lion .
A season with a further 22 episodes ran from October 14, 2017 to March 31, 2018. Crunchyroll also streamed this in simulcast for the English-speaking area, and Wakanim in the German-speaking area.

The music for the series comes from Yukari Hashimoto . The opening title of the first 11 episodes was Answer ( ア ン サ ー Ansā ) by Bump of Chicken , then Sayonara Bystander ( さ よ な ら バ イ ス タ ン ダ ー Sayonara Baisutandā ) by Yuki . End credits were Fighter ( フ ァ イ タ ー Faitā ) by Bump of Chicken and then orion by Kenshi Yonezu . In episode 7, Nyā Shogi Ondo ( ニ ャ ー 将 棋 音 頭 ) was used instead, which was sung by Ai Kayano, Kana Hanazawa and Misaki Kun in their roles and was also played during episodes 8 and 9.
In the second season, Flag o Tateru ( フ ラ ッ グ を 立 て ろ ) was first used by Yuki and in the second half Haru ga Kite Bokura ( 春 が 来 て ぼ く ら ). In the credits, Kafune ( カ von ネ ) by Brian the Sun and then I am Standing by Ruann were used.
Award
In 2011, March Comes won the Manga Taishō in like a Lion . In 2013 the series was nominated for the Osamu Tezuka Culture Prize in the Great Manga Prize category, but could not prevail against Kingdom . In 2014, Chica Umino was nominated again for her manga and won the award this year.
