Sanicare is a mail-order pharmacy based in the Lower Saxony spa town of Bad Laer in the Osnabrück district .
The Sanicare brand operates under the name BS-Apotheken OHG to which two further mail-order pharmacies and two branch pharmacies belong. The pharmacists Christoph Bertram and Heinrich Meyer are the sole shareholders and managing directors here .
In addition to the nationwide dispatch of pharmaceuticals and health items, the delivery of care facilities and medical practices is one of the main focuses of activity.
The headquarters are in the Lower Saxony spa town of Bad Laer in the district of Osnabrück . The roof of the pharmacy is the Bad Laer health center, which the former pharmacy owner Johannes Mönter founded in 1998. In the 40,000 m² health center, 15,000 m² are available for the logistics area of the mail order pharmacy.
Employee
At the Sanicare mail-order pharmacy, around 225 employees take care of the pharmaceutical supply and support for 1.6 million customers in Germany. 90 pharmaceutical specialists ( pharmacists , pharmaceutical commercial clerks (PKA) , pharmaceutical technical assistants (PTA) ) work in the customer service center, who take care of and support customers with pharmaceuticals.

logistics
Around 10,000 shipments leave the pharmacy's logistics center every day . The Sanicare mail order pharmacy has around 50,000 different pharmaceutical products and other health items in stock. This means that Sanicare covers a range of more than 14 days. This ensures that orders can usually be processed on the same day. A SAP EDP system and one of the largest, fully automatic picking machines for pharmaceuticals in Germany take care of the logistics. In June 2018, a logistics automation system was put into operation at the Bad Laer location. With the new building, over 50 percent of all logistics processes can now be handled automatically.
Branch pharmacies
The pharmacist Johannes Mönter (born February 26, 1947 - September 4, 2012) ran three branch pharmacies in addition to the headquarters in Bad Laer, the largest number currently permitted by German law. These were the Sanicare-Apotheke Osnabrück , Sonnen-Apotheke Versmold and the Sanicare-Apotheke in Bethel, Bielefeld . After the death of the company's founder Johannes Mönter, the Sanicare Group had to file for bankruptcy in September 2012. On April 1, 2013 a new owner was found, the Saarland pharmacist Volkmar Schein. In 2014 the pharmacy was converted into a general partnership, which was now run jointly by the two partners Volkmar Schein and Christoph Bertram. In the fall of 2015 there were disputes between the owners, which led to Schein ceding 45% of his shares to Bertram. Schein apparently died of suicide in July 2016; there were legal disputes regarding the shareholding in Sanicare. Mainly Schein's widow Ingrid Schein would like to have Bertram's takeover of the shares challenged. Bertram has been running BS-Apotheken OHG together with Heinrich Meyer since 2016. The number of branch pharmacies has been reduced to two: the Sanicare pharmacy in Bad Laer and the Sonnen pharmacy in Versmold.
SANICARE airplane
The probably oldest Douglas DC-6 in the world is located on an elevation on the grounds of the health center in Bad Laer . The four-engine aircraft became known as the Flugzeugcafé Preußisch Oldendorf and was bought by Sanicare founder Johannes Mönter in 2003 for the symbolic amount of € 1, transported to Bad Laer and painted in the Sanicare design. Today the Sanicare aircraft is a landmark of the mail order pharmacy.
history
The history of the Sanicare Group goes back to 1975, when Johannes Mönter took over the Elch pharmacy in Bad Laer. By 1983 he concluded supply contracts with twelve hospitals and supplied them with pharmaceuticals; in 1990 there were already 18 clinics. 25 pharmaceutical specialists were employed.
In 1996 a pilot project started in which the Elch-Apotheke supplied a clinic with products for medical needs for the first time. Two years later, Mönter founded the Bad Laer health center and, after transferring the Elch pharmacy to his wife Marlies Mönter, opened the Sanicare pharmacy. This took over the hospital supply of the Elch pharmacy with 25 customers. 50 pharmacists , PTAs and PKAs were employed in the Sanicare pharmacy.
In 1999 the storage and logistics area was enlarged from 4,540 m² by 2,100 m² and the Sanicare diabetes specialist shipping company was founded. Two more years later, with the third construction phase, the logistics area was expanded to a total of 8,600 m². The Sanicare pharmacy began to supply the meanwhile 30 clinics with business and administrative requirements and installed an online ordering system for hospitals.
In 2002, Sanicare began with the automatic preparation of medicines for the pharmaceutical care of old people's and nursing homes.
In 2003, Sanicare concluded supply contracts with 35 clinics with a total number of beds of more than 6,000, and 25 hospitals were fully supplied. Over 400 employees worked in the Bad Laer health center, including over 80 pharmaceutical specialists ( pharmacists , PTA , PKA ).
The Sanicare mail order pharmacy opened in 2004 with the approval of the mail order business in Germany. The Sanicare Group processed 5,000 orders every day and had a turnover of 200 million euros.
In 2005 the mail-order pharmacy was awarded the top grade 1.9 by the Stiftung Warentest and took over the first branch pharmacy with a Cloppenburg pharmacy. Orders rose to 7,000 per day, sales to 261 million euros and the number of employees to 450.
In 2006 the Versmolder Sonnen-Apotheke was taken over, the order situation was 9,700 per day, the total turnover was 331.5 million euros, the number of employees was 550. 45 clinics with a total of 10,000 beds are supplied. In 2006, the Rheuma-Liga and Sanicare entered into a cooperation to provide members with pharmaceutical supplies.
In 2007, with the takeover of the Marien-Apotheke, a change of pharmacy took place in Cloppenburg . A second mail-order pharmacy, the Aliva mail-order pharmacy, opened in July. In September the next branch pharmacy was opened at the Osnabrück Clinic. In October, Sanicare was again the Stiftung Warentest test winner with a grade of 1.9. Sales in December amounted to 397.5 million euros with 724 employees and 745,000 customers.
In 2008 the number of customers of the Sanicare mail-order pharmacy was one million. According to data from IMS Health, the mail order pharmacy had a market share of around 30 percent of sales in the self-medication market in the 2008 calendar year, making it Germany's largest mail order pharmacy.
In 2009, the Sanicare mail-order pharmacy had a market share of 10 percent according to a customer survey by the market research company Service Barometer and was in second place after the DocMorris mail-order pharmacy, which has a market share of 15 percent.
In 2010 Johannes Mönter took over the Sarepta pharmacy in Bielefeld and renamed it "Sanicare pharmacy in Bethel". From May 2010, it supplied the Evangelical Hospital Bielefeld and Mara GmbH with a total of around 1,500 beds with medicines and medical products. In this context he transferred the Marien-Apotheke in Cloppenburg to his wife Marlies. In the test of the Stiftung Warentest, Sanicare performed poorly in May. The reason: all three consultations on drug interactions were essentially wrong, which led to the devaluation of the overall grade.
Johannes Mönter died on September 4, 2012 at the age of 65. On September 25th, the deceased owner's heirs filed for bankruptcy. The mail-order pharmacy and three Sanicare pharmacies were affected by the bankruptcy . Other parts of the Sanicare group were not affected. An investor was sought to secure the 324 affected jobs at the Sanicare mail-order pharmacy.
On April 1, 2013, pharmacist Volkmar Schein took over Sanicare.
In 2014, Sanicare celebrated its tenth anniversary.
In February 2014 the Sanicare Group had a turnover of 150 million euros. On June 12, 2014 the drugstore "Ihr Platz" opened on 290 m² in the Bad Laer health center. Volkmar Schein was a franchisee and managing director .
On January 30, 2014, SANICARE was the winner of the Online Retail Awards 2014. In the third edition of the customer satisfaction study “Success factors in e-commerce - Germany's top online shops”, 10,200 online shoppers rated the website design and the price-performance ratio , Assortment, payment, shipping and delivery, ease of use and the service of the top 100 online shops.
In May 2014, the competition study "ServiceAtlas Online-Shops 2014" attested with 3,990 customer ratings for 40 online shops: Sanicare was one of the most customer-oriented online shops in 2014. For this, over 30 specific performance features were evaluated on seven evaluation dimensions from the customer's point of view. Accordingly, classic service was also important to customers in electronic commerce.
On September 1, 2014, pharmacist Christoph Bertram becomes the new managing director of Sanicare alongside owner Volkmar Schein . With immediate effect, Sanicare operates as an open trading company (BS-Apotheken OHG).
In May 2015, the German Society for Pain Medicine eV awarded Sanicare as the first mail-order pharmacy in Germany to be awarded the “Pain Competency Pharmacy” certificate. The mail order pharmacy offered a pain consultation.
In August 2015, the Sanicare mail-order pharmacy was awarded the Germany test seal “Customer Favorite 2015” in gold and was one of the most popular brands of German consumers.
In November 2015, the Sanicare mail order pharmacy was awarded gold by Focus Money and Germany test as the price and industry winner.
In September 2016, the Sanicare mail order pharmacy was one of the winners of the study "Germany's Best Online Shops 2016" in the "Pharmacies" category.
Volkmar Schein died on July 28, 2016 at the age of 56.
In January 2017, the Lower Saxony Chamber of Pharmacists confirmed Heinrich Meyer's operating license retrospectively from July 1, 2016. Since then, the leading pharmacist of Sanicare has been the second partner and managing director of BS-Apotheken OHG, alongside Christoph Bertram.
In October 2018, Sanicare was recognized as the most trustworthy brand among German consumers in the mail-order pharmacy sector.
Memberships
Sanicare is a member of the Federal Association of German Mail Order Pharmacies (BVDVA). SANICARE partner and managing director , Heinrich Meyer, is responsible for the fate of the association as deputy chairman. The mail-order pharmacy is also a member of the European Association of Mail-Order Pharmacies (EAMSP).
Medication plan
With the PATHOS patient therapy optimization system, Sanicare offers its customers a medication plan. This was developed by Sanicare pharmacists , doctors and therapists to protect patients from adverse drug effects, contraindications and interactions . Sanicare carries out a personal risk analysis on the basis of the prescribed and, above all, freely purchased medication and other health products. In this, the pharmacy also takes into account known allergies and previous illnesses. As a result, the customers receive an individual medication plan with dosage information, intake instructions and recommendations as well as further explanations on the drugs used .
