Location and demarcation

The depression lies between the Saarkohlenwald , which also belongs to the Saar-Nahe-Bergland, with the localities Spiesen-Elversberg in the north and Neunkirchen (Saar) in the northeast (both districts Neunkirchen ) and the steep slopes of the Sankt Ingbert-Kirkeler forest area . Towards the east it is replaced by the Kirkeler Schwelle near Rohrbach . The middle town of St. Ingbert is named because the majority of the area of this area lies on its boundary.

West of the Kirkeler Schwelle, the St. Ingberter Senke is drained through the Rohrbach to the Saar . To the east of it the Mutterbach drains towards the Blies .

geography

A large part of the depression lies on red sandstone .

The landscape-defining stock is largely closed beech forest at 230 to 340  m above sea level. NHN , which becomes more sparse towards the Blies and merges into alluvial forests , wet fallow land and wet grasslands (Bliesaue). Only the flatter lowlands of the waters are covered with agricultural land that is still used as arable land. The wooded areas are also cultivated.

The St. Ingberter Senke contains valuable biotopes in an otherwise densely populated cultivated land and economic area, the relevance of which is considered to be particularly high by the State Office for Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety in Saarland. Around 2 percent of the area is under nature protection , 36 percent are designated as fauna-flora-habitat area. Nature reserves include the Im Glashüttental / Rohrbachtal nature reserve .
