The Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary Star of the New Evangelization and St. John Paul II ( Polish Sanctuary NMP Gwiazdy Nowej Ewangelizacji i św. Jana Pawła II , Latin Sanctuarium Mariae Sanctissimae Stellae Novae Evangelizationis atque sancti Ioannis Pauli II ) in Toruń is a young Polish sanctuary in the jurisdiction of the Redemptorists .

history

The sanctuary was created on the initiative of Father Rydzyk , who wanted to honor the pontificate of Pope John Paul II with his own sanctuary. The place under the church building was consecrated on June 20, 2012. The foundation act followed on September 8, 2012. The foundation stone was laid three years later on September 5, 2015.

Finally, on May 18, 2016, the church and the altar were consecrated by the papal legate Cardinal Grocholewski . He was accompanied by Cardinal Dziwisz and Archbishop Mokrzycki , the Apostolic Nuncio Migliore and Vicar General Szamocki . The Representative Art Ensemble of the Polish Army (RZAWP) made music . The guests of honor included the Polish President Andrzej Duda , the Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło ( PiS ) and the Sejm MP and PiS party chairman Jarosław Kaczyński . The Catholic television program TV Trwam broadcast the festival, which lasted more than five hours, live. To get in the mood, two open air concerts with Maciej Wróblewski and Eleni Tzoka took place in front of the church . The actual church consecration began with the lustration , a solemn cleaning of the outside of the church. After the entry rite in the form of a large procession , which symbolized Polish history from Christianization in 966 to the election of John Paul II in 1978, a letter from Pope Francis and a letter from the Polish government cabinet were read out. Then the altar and the interior were sprinkled with Gregorius water . The altar and certain places in the church were anointed with chrism and honored with an incense offering. Wicks were lit on the sides of the altar and the altar for Georg Friedrich Handel's Hallelujah choir was clothed. In front of the church, Polish aristocrats fired gun salutes from historic cannons. At the end, the consecration was prefecture and the first holy mass offering, which was offered by the consecrator. After the liturgical celebration there was a market and a folk festival.
